I believe in statement anything: Statement necklaces. Statement rings. Statement bags. So of course, you know I have always been a fan of statement features of clothing as well. Today, I want to talk about statement sleeves and my love for a particular kind of statement sleeve--ruffle sleeves. Cascading ruffles lend a romantic vibe when they are poured down the sides of shirt and dress sleeves. To up the ante on a simple outfit sleeves, consider trying statement-making ruffle sleeves. These sleeves are fun, loud, and attention-grabbing.
Ruffle sleeves have been spotted on the runways of the recent Spring/Summer 2017 fashion shows, so you know most designers will follow suit and these sleeves will be easier to find on many pieces of clothing now. The trick to pulling off it off: make the ruffle the focal point of your outfit, and make sure it is dramatic and structured--as opposed to a bunch of limp, half-assed frills, which can look cheap and indecisive. Whether you choose ruffles that completely cover the sleeve or ones that start from the elbow, these sleeves are all the statement you need. Oh, and forget loud patterns and opt for minimal solid-color hues instead when rocking this trend. Pair your ruffle-sleeve shirt with simple pieces such as cropped, straight-leg trousers or an A-line skirt. The simple, straight-forward style of the paired piece will make your overall look very stylish and chic, rather than letting it go over-the-top (in a not so cute way).
Here, I chose a very structured, slightly cropped red top with cascading, ruffle sleeves. I decided to keep it very simple and clean with black skinny pants and accessorized with a one-strand necklace that I doubled around my neck. I decided to go with black open-toe booties to create a continuous look at the bottom as to further not distract from the ruffle-sleeve top. When it was a little cool, I added the fur jacket. The reason why the jacket works here is because you cannot see the sleeves when the jacket is on. If you could, that would be a total DISTRACTION from the sleeves, so please keep that in mind.
Oh, and I just want to note how FAB my fur leopard print jacket and bag are! Believe it or not, my dad gave it to me for Christmas! Shouts out to him!
