Wood You Have Time? My JORD Watch Review and Contest
November 11, 2016
Hi guys! A few weeks ago, I shared a picture of an AMAZING wood watch on my Instagram page. I also shared a contest I am doing with the manufacturer for a $75 gift certificate, Jord, so you guys can get an amazing watch as well for you, as well as your family and friends for Christmas! (Details on the contest are below and everyone is a winner!)
As promised, I am doing a review on this gorgeous timepiece now that I have had it for a few weeks! After looking through them all, I chose the Cora in Zebrawood & Turquoise. I loved how it managed to be minimalist, yet stand out at the same time. I love how it is simple, yet unique, I love the color palette , and I love the fact that anyone looking at it at first sight can tell it is made from wood and immediately be intrigued.
Ordering the Watch:
When I ordered the watch, I had to provide my wrist measurement (in centimeters) so they could size it and send it ready-to-wear. They provided me with a printable sizing chart that I could wrap around my wrist, along with detailed instructions on how to measure and provided the measurement correctly for customization.
My First Reaction Upon Opening the Package:
To me, it was clear from the beginning that the company wants your “Jord experience” to begin the moment you receive your watch. Call me weird, but I loved the smell of fresh wood upon opening the shipping card box! Also, the watch box itself gives you a tailored, luxurious feel. Going along with the theme, the watch box itself is made of wood as well. I loved that. You can tell that there was time taken into crafting it. The Jord logos are embossed nicely on the box. The lid slides off easily from the small finger marking for you to pull. I literally stopped to admire all of the details of the wooden watch box before even opening it to look at the watch!
Once you open the box, you are greeted by the watch on a small display tweed pillow. Upon picking up the watch, my first reactions was, “Wow! This is really, really light!” I had just assumed it would be heavy because it is made of wood, but I found out that this particular type of wood-- zebrawood--is just a really light, porous wood. So if you select this watch, do not be alarmed by its weight.
Sizewise, I think this watch is perfect. The case width is 37mm with a band thickness of 22mm. To me, it is a great size for a ladies wrist, with that slight chunky look you would expect from a wooden watch.
Underneath the pillow, they included the links and spring bars that were removed from the watch for my custom fitting.
Overall, I think that their price point is very appropriate for what you are getting. Look at it this way-- If we look at watches with automatic movements on the “cheaper side,” we naturally land on something like the famous Seiko 5 line. The next tier up, we are getting into the Seagull line (which also uses the same movement), then we finally land on Jord watches where you are paying just a tad bit more for something that is wayyy more unique!
In all, I love this watch and have actually been looking at the men's’ line for my boyfriend and my father. I am a sucker for unique mens’ watches, like I am a sucker for suits and ties, and I have seen photos of their line of men's’ watches and think they would be awesome. So if you are a man reading this, or considering purchasing for a man in your life, I would totally recommend it!
